Fertilizing

A vital part of keeping your yard beautiful all year long is fertilizer and weed control for your turf. Grass craves periodic feedings, and it is best to meet this need for periodic feedings by fertilizing lawns with “slow-release” products.  Since these products release their nutrients over time, rather than all at once, fertilizing lawns with them allows the grass to use nutrients when needed.  We recommend a six-part schedule for fertilizing lawns. Following this schedule will help keep your lawn thick, green, and healthy all year long.

March ~ April
A heavy rate of granular fertilizer plus pre-emergent.  This will help keep the weeds from germinating and allow for a strong start to spring.

May ~ June
A second application of fertilizer plus a broadleaf weed control.

June ~ July
Balanced Granular Fertilizer ( Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) with slow release nitrogen to provide summer long feeding with broadleaf weed control.

July ~ August
A top quality granular insecticide plus a well balanced slow release granular fertilizer.

August ~ September

Balanced granular fertilizer ( Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium).  Check for grub activity and apply insecticide if needed.

October ~ December
Heavy rate of granular fertilizer to stimulate root growth and food storage for winter.  Also helps early spring green-up.
